“Constantine” is NBC’s offering in the race to adapt comic books into television shows. And based on the trailer for the new drama, this could be a home run, as far as adaptations are concerned.
Starring Matt Ryan (“Criminal Minds”) as John Constantine and Lucy Griffiths (“True Blood”) as Liv, “Constantine” is based on the DC Comics series, “Hellblazer.” The story focuses on a demon hunter and occult master who lost his own soul when fighting against the forces of hell. When demons target Liv, the daughter of one of Constantine’s friends, he learns that the young woman’s “second sight” is a threat to a growing evil.
Constantine and Liv must therefore travel around the country, using his skills and her abilities, to stop demons and send them back to where they belong.
TV shows and movies based on comics are all the rage these days, but the trailer for “Constantine” looks like a winner among them. If nothing else, the series looks way better than that Keanu Reeves movie.
“Constantine” will air Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC this fall.
