Following his tragic death, the remains of “Glee” actor Cory Monteith were cremated in Vancouver on Tuesday (July 16) after a private viewing with his family and girlfriend Lea Michele. However, his father wasn’t invited.
TMZ reports that Monteith’s dad, Joe Monteith (divorced from Monteith’s mother Ann), says he was informed of the cremation only after it had happened, adding that he’s “totally devastated” he wasn’t able to see his son’s body.
Monteith’s body was released to his mother on Tuesday, leading her to hold a viewing at the hospital with Michele and Monteith’s brother, Shaun. After the viewing, she made the cremation decision.
Joe tells TMZ, “I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very very much. I’m saddened at the fact that I couldn’t have been there to see my son before he was cremated.”
Monteith was found dead in his hotel room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver on Saturday. The BC Coroners Service performed a rushed autopsy and confirmed that the actor died from mixed drug toxicity; specifically, a combination of heroin and alcohol.
