“Cougar Town” will be getting more than a new home next season. The series, which is moving to TBS in 2013, will also have new showrunners.
Creators Kevin Biegel and Bill Lawrence are stepping back from their duties as the day-to-day showrunners, Vulture reports. “Cougar Town” star Courtney Cox dropped that little bombshell in talking to the site about the move to cable.
“As a producer, I can’t wait. This is a fresh start,” she says. “It will feel like the same show, but we’re going to have a new [showunner], there will be new people, new changes.”
A rep for Lawrence says both creators will be “actively involved” in the show, but someone else will be at the helm. Lawrence signed a development deal with Warner Bros. TV last year, part of which stipulated that he would only be the showrunner on “Cougar Town” for one more season before focusing on new projects full-time. That season comes to an end on May 29, so “Cougar Town” will hire someone else between now and its 2013 debut on TBS.
