According to Variety, the late-night host is in final negotiations with Tribune Media to host a syndicated evening talk show that would air in the 7 p.m. hour on the Tribune’s 42 stations. The target launch is fall 2015 and current “Late Late Show” executive producer Michael Naidus is expected to be the showrunner.
The program is looking to blend talk show features and Ferguson’s signature quirky comedic style, having it act as a ramp-up to a sitcom rerun, like “The Big Bang Theory.” This is Tribune Media’s second foray into a syndicated talk show — “Arsenio” was launched earlier this year as the first syndicated late-night talk show in years, but was canceled after one season.
Tribune Media has also recently been dipping its feet into the original scripted programming game with “Salem” and the critically-acclaimed “Manhattan.”
In the interest of full disclosure, Zap2it is owned by Tribune Media.
