ABC’s new comedy, “Cristela,” follows a young woman in her sixth year of law school who is on the brink of landing an internship at a prestigious law firm, but her traditional Mexican-American family doesn’t approve.
You wouldn’t necessarily know that from the first clip from the new series, which shows the titular character, played by creator Cristela Alonzo, essentially chugging a beer and belching. That’s not to say the show won’t be great — who doesn’t love a woman who isn’t afraid to go against stereotypes and succeed against all odds? — but it’s a funny bit and nothing else that actually tells us what the new show is about.
According to ABC, Cristela is “stuck straddling the old culture she’s trying to modernize at home with her working-class family and the modern world she’s trying to embrace in her professional career.” Check out the first clip from the new Friday night comedy below.
