The show won’t air for another couple of months, but you can get your first look at one of the more bizarre new shows on television right now: Starz has released key art for its new series, “Da Vinci’ Demons.”
Created by David S. Goyer (“The Dark Knight Trilogy,” “Man of Steel”), the series focuses on Renaissance artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci. This version of the story recasts Leonardo in the role of a true action figure. Played by Tom Riley, this particular version of the man shows him as a swordsman, an artist, an inventor and a dreamer.
Basically, there is a lot more action than you might expect from a story based on history. Da Vinci is 25 years old when the story begins, an ambitious and eccentric man on the edges of Florence’s high society. In addition to the outside pressures keeping him down, this Leonardo struggles to survive reality and his own almost-superhuman genius.
“Leonardo was a transformational figure — the original Renaissance man and the kind of genius that only emerges every thousand years or so,” David Goyer said of his series.
“Da Vinci’s Demons” premieres on Starz Friday, April 12 at 10pm. Following the premiere, the show will air Fridays at 9pm.
