It seems like Daft Punk fans were ready to “Get Lucky,” because they listened to the band’s new single a whole lot during its first 24 hours of release. Spotify revealed that “Get Lucky” broke the website’s record number of streams in the US and UK the day after it premiered.
“There was never any doubt that the first original single from Daft Punk in years was going to be one of the biggest debut singles of 2013,” the Spotify director of label relations tells BBC. “We expect the album to become one of the biggest, if not the biggest, on Spotify this year.”
A teaser for “Get Lucky” premiered at weekend one of Coachella to promote Daft Punk’s new album “Random Access Memories.” The album drops on May 21, and features musicians like Pharrell Williams, Panda Bear, Julian Casablancas, Todd Edwards, DJ Falcon, Chilly Gonzales, Giorgio Moroder, Nile Rodgers and Paul Williams.
As for that Spotify record, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop” previously held the number one streams title in the US, while Bastille’s single “Pompeii” held it in the UK.
