Jon Stewart might be admittedly a bit late to the discussion of the events unfolding in Ferguson, Mo., but that doesn’t mean “The Daily Show” host doesn’t have a strong opinion on the death of 18-year-old Mike Brown at the hand of police officer Darren Wilson. Stewart took the media to task for the coverage of Ferguson and saying that it was unjustly determined to be a race issue.
“Do you not understand that life in this country is inherently different for white people and black people?” he asks, later noting, “Race is there and it is a constant. You’re tired of hearing about it? Imagine how f***ing exhausting it is living it.”
As for claims that leaders in the African American community, including President Barack Obama and Reverend Al Sharpton, aren’t doing anything to address the issue, he says, “They are trying to do something, actually. You being ignorant of those attempts doesn’t mean the issue itself is being ignored, in the same way that when it snows where you live doesn’t mean the world isn’t getting hotter.”
