On Sunday (May 8), the Dallas Mavericks swept the Los Angeles Lakers out of the NBA playoffs with a 122-86 victory in Dallas. The Mavericks will head to the Western Conference finals. Lakers coach Phil Jackson is headed into retirement.
Two players — Lakers Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum — were sidelined for throwing cheap shots in the space of a minute, prompting a quick reaction both in Dallas and online with accusations that the Lakers were “sore losers.”
According to the Associated Press, fans at the game started throwing things toward the court as Bynum took off his jersey and was escorted to the locker room by Ron Artest, who himself had been suspended from game three because of a shot he took in the closing seconds of game two.
“[They’re] frustrated on being eliminated, but that is still no excuse to act that way,” wrote one fan on Yahoo.com.
