The most important thing to know about Ralph Macchio’s second appearance on “Dancing with the Stars” is that we found out he named his one and only son “Daniel.” As in Daniel Larusso, the character he played in “The Karate Kid,” “The Karate Kid, Part II” and “The Karate Kid, Part III.”
His daughter also made an appearance in the pre-dance practice reel and it will come as a relief to you, no doubt, that she is not named “Mr. Miyagi.”
Back to the dancing: Macchio and partner Karina Smirnoff chose the jive. Macchio also decided to dress like one of the “Jersey Boys” in a spare glittery black suit with pink skinny tie. Oh wait, he is a Jersey Boy. So anyway, the energy was high — there was leg sweeping and if a fly had been present, he would have totally caught it with a pair of chopsticks.
But the judges were not so easily impressed with Macchio, who grabbed last Monday’s (March 21) highest score.
“Your kicks were not as sharp as they could be,” said Bruno Tonioli. “You have to be sharper,” added Carrie Ann Inaba. And Len Goodman, typically blunt, said, “You overdid it.”
What do you think? Did Macchio nail the jive or overdo it? And do we forgive him for naming his son Daniel?
