David Letterman is the next brave soul to sit in Oprah Winfrey‘s hot seat. Now that they’ve put their own differences behind them, Oprah grills Letterman about his famous rivalry with fellow late night talk show host, Jay Leno for an upcoming episode of “Oprah’s Next Chapter.”
Letterman, unsurprisingly, gives Leno quite the back-handed compliment.
“He’s an unusual fellow. I’ve never met anyone quite like Jay,” says Dave. “And I will say, and I’m happy to say, that I think he is the funniest guy I’ve ever known. Just flat out, if you go to see him do his nightclub act, just the funniest, the smartest, a wonderful observationist and very appealing as a comic.”
Well, that seems lovely enough. Could this be an olive branch Dave’s extending to Jay? Wait …
“Therefore,” continues Letterman, “the fact that he is also maybe the most insecure person I have ever known — I could never reconcile that.”
Oh. Well, never mind on that olive branch idea.
Oprah’s interview with Letterman airs Jan. 6 on OWN.
