The judges’ table on “The X Factor” will look very different should the FOX singing competition return for a fourth season. For starters, their hair colors will be a lot less bright now that blue-coiffed judge Demi Lovato confirms she is exiting the show to focus on her music career.
“I’m leaving to start a new chapter in my life,” Lovato tells Zap2it backstage after the “X Factor” finale performance show. “I started the show being a singer and a musician and it is time to go back to that. It has been really great, but I’m so excited because 2014, I’m going to dedicate entirely to music: touring and making a new album, possibly releasing one. I’m really, really focused and excited.”
Although Lovato says she’s excited to move on, there are a few things she’ll take away from her “X Factor” experience. “What I’m going to miss the most about this experience is probably being able to sit next to Kelly [Rowland] and Paulina [Rubio]. They’ve been so incredible to me. Getting to see them twice a week and [I’ll also miss] getting to help mentor contestants to achieve their dreams. You know, you get emotionally invested in their dreams and you get really passionate about helping them out and wanting them to have an awesome performance.”
Now, though, it’s time for Lovato to pursue her dreams. “I want this year to be the most incredible year in my life, musically,” she says. “I’ve kind of been building and building up all these years, kind of not knowing who I am as an artist. I really want to showcase my vocals and I feel like I haven’t really accomplished that with some of my music, and I’m just about to explode and I want to get all of the music out and start the new album and just show people what I really can do and what I’m capable of.”
Before she embarks on her tour (with “X Factor” alums Fifth Harmony and “X Factor” U.K. alums Little Mix), Lovato plans to spend the month of January getting some much needed R&R. “When I work so much you don’t get a lot of sleep, and I think I really want to get really fit and in shape and just get really healthy. I want to be rested mentally and spiritually; I think it’s a month to recharge,” she says. “I would love to have more than that, but I’ve decided to go on tour as well.”
Lovato’s Neon Lights tour starts Feb. 3 in Vancouver, Canada.
