“X Factor” mentor Demi Lovato appeared on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” Monday (Dec. 9), where she talked about her experience with drugs and alcohol and going to rehab at the young age of 18.
“I’ve done the whole partying thing, I’ve done the whole
rehab thing. … I’ve always been a really motivated, driven fighter so
it’s kind of like when I first got sober, I was like, ‘I’m going to show
all of you, you think I can’t get sober? Watch me.'” says Lovato. But she adds that it turned into something she wanted to do for herself.
“I’ve stuck to it
because it’s made my life so much better,” says the 21-year-old singer. “There’s a lot of young people
that look up to me and there needs to be someone that stands up and says
it’s not about molly and partying and all that stuff.”
Other highlights from Ms. Lovato include her talking about her new blue hair:
“I change my hair color all the time, but with the blue, I actually have to touch it up every time I wash my hair. I actually do it myself.”
On wanting to win a Grammy one day:
“You actually have more Grammy nominations than I do. [laughs] I always look at my work and I’m like, ‘OK, I can always do better. Maybe next album.’ Just before I die, sometime.”
On getting anxious around fans:
“I don’t think I’ve lost my temper. I think what happens is I actually get anxiety attacks. If people run up to hug me, I shut down.”
She also reveals her latest tattoo — a Roman numeral three, in honor of her late father. It was his favorite number, as he was a big fan of NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt.
