“[Creator Marc Cherry] will develop a new character for the show,” Williams tells Access Hollywood. “But I’m so excited to be a part of a fantastic franchise and work with a team of such accomplished women. It won’t be Wilhelmina, but given Marc Cherry’s record, the character will make a lot of waves on Wisteria Lane!”
Executive producer Bob Daily told Zap2it that Cherry would be meeting with the woman who played Wilhelmina Slater on ABC’s “Ugly Betty.” He detailed exactly the kind of role she would be filling on The Lane.
“What we’re looking for is sort of a provocateur, a muckraker,” Daily tells us. “We’ve had a couple different people filling that role over the years. When Dana Delany joined The Lane, her function was partially to sort of stir things up a little bit. I think that’s really what we’re looking for.”
Williams is joining the show after her run on Broadway starring in “Sondheim on Sondheim,” for which she has received a Drama League nomination. During her four years on “Ugly Betty,” Williams has won or has been nominated for numerous
individual and ensemble awards, including the Emmy, SAG Award, Golden
Globe and NAACP Image Awards. In 2009, she co-starred in Disney’s feature film “Hannah Montana: The Movie.”
She has also had a very successful career as a recording artist, selling millions of albums worldwide. Her latest album is called “The Real Thing.”
Don’t you think Vanessa Williams is definitely the gal for the job?
