Fat beats mean fat wallets. This could easily be the mantra for the five wealthiest hip hop artists as ranked by Forbes.
The publication released its list of the top five money makers in the musical genre on Tuesday (April 17), and Sean “Diddy” Combs came out on top with $550 million. Combs has transitioned from simply a rapper to being a full-fledged entrepreneur with his Sean John clothing line, Ciroc vodka, marketing firm and, of course, Bad Boy Records.
Coming in second on the list is fellow New Yorker Jay-Z. The rapper has a variety of business interests and also owns a piece of the New Jersey Nets NBA franchise. He’s worth an estimated $460 million.
In third place is former NWA member Dr. Dre. The super producer has come into a great deal of money recently, this a result of his ownership stake in Beats Electronics, the headphone maker. Dre is reportedly worth around $260 million.
Rounding out the top five are Birdman ($125 million) and 50 Cent ($110 million).
