That’s a big win for Whovians everywhere. The repeat screening of the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor,” made big money at the U.S. box office Monday (November 26).
Showing on only 660 screens, “Doctor Who” was the second biggest box office winner, behind “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” according to Entertainment Weekly. The 75-minute special episode took in a $4.8 million ($7,155 per screen average), beating out “Thor: The Dark World’s” $1.4 million.
By comparison, “Catching Fire” made $12.3 million on 4,163 screens, an average of $2,960″ per screen. In addition to those who turned out at theaters to see the episode, 2.4 million viewers tuned into BBC America for the Doctor’s latest adventure on Saturday.
