Promoting a new album (“Better Day”), a new tour and the 26th season at Dollywood, Dolly Parton stopped by the Mar. 25 episode of “Good Morning America” — but what interested us most is her continued inability to recognize herself from her impersonators.
Referring to a famous incident at a gay bar in Los Angeles where Parton lost a Dolly Parton lookalike contest, “GMA” host Robin Roberts presented four pictures of Dolly and asked her to pick out herself.
“I think you’re trying to trick me,” she the 65-year-old. “I think they’re all different pictures of me, aren’t they?”
No, actually, two were other women and one is a man. But we’ll let it slide, because the interview was done via satellite. “I think I recognize my outfit,” she admits, before finally picking the right one. (It’s C.)
And because it was as good of a transition as any, Roberts suggests that the late Elizabeth Taylor probably would have loved their little game, giving Dolly a moment to reflect on how much she had in common with her friend.
“We loved our big hairdos,” she admits. “We were both little, and we used to often talk about that, trying to find clothes to suit us… She had kind of a big chest too.”
Dolly, thank goodness we still have you.
