There’s one less lawsuit for Donald Trump to worry about. The real estate tycoon has formally requested that his lawsuit against comedian Bill Maher be withdrawn, Reuters reports. Trump filed the suit in February, based on a joke Maher made during an appearance on “The Tonight Show.”
On the January episode, Maher joked that he would donate $5 million to charity if Donald could produce proof that he wasn’t the “spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.” Trump immediately released his birth certificate and waited for the money to be paid. When it wasn’t, he went on “Fox & Friends” to announce the suit.
The problem is Maher was a comedian making a joke on a comedy show, which isn’t quite the same as a legally binding contract. Without the suit against Maher, Trump still has many legal options. He recently threatened to sue the “Dump Trump” organization, which is calling for Macy’s to drop Donald as a spokesman. He also took aim at rapper Mac Miller, threatening to sue him over Twitter, due to Miller’s video for the song “Donald Trump” getting more than 75 million views on YouTube.
