Edna-Jo Spain, mother to Hunter, the boy who wore the shirt to school, says, “For this to be considered a a threat to the school — I couldn’t understand it. It says, ‘I will hurt you physically and metaphysically. Anybody that ever watches ‘Duck Dynasty’ knows that Si Robertson is famous for his little funny slogans.”
Spain adds that Hunter’s grandmother gave him the shirt — “A lady who would not even buy my daughter ripped up jeans to wear to school. She viewed that as inappropriate.”
Spain says Hunter was told he could turn the shirt inside-out or go home. Hunter chose to go home and change, saying with a smile, “I’m not going to look stupid in front of all these young ladies in the school.”
The school says in a statement via the superintendent: “If you are a ‘Duck Dynasty’ fan you understand the meaning of the shirt. But if you haven’t watched ‘Duck Dynasty’ you
may question if the shirt implies violence. As a school division, we
would like to keep our slogans on student shirts as non-violent as
Edna-Jo says that the family are huge “Duck Dynasty” fans — they’re going on the “Duck Dynasty” cruise next summer.
