Good news, “Eastbound & Down” fans. Not only does the returning HBO comedy finally have a Season 4 premiere date, but it also starts filming on June 7 in North Carolina.
Though “Eastbound & Down’s” third season was expected to be its last, HBO opted to bring the Danny McBride and Jody Hill comedy back for another go three months after it went off the air in 2012. The fourth season will premiere on Sept. 29 at 10:30 p.m. ET. Once again, HBO is touting Season 4 as “Eastbound & Down’s” last.
“Here we are back again,” McBride told Spinoff Online of the new season at WonderCon. “We really love doing that show, and HBO really wants to do one more season. Jody and I kind of looked at each other to make sure we have a story angle for it and we had something we sort of thought was rich, something that would be fun. Yeah, we signed up for one more season, so it’s just been a bonus round for Kenny Powers.”
He teased of Season 4’s plot, “It kind of explores the idea of what happens to a knight in shining armor after he rides off into the sunset. Is that sunset everything it’s cracked up to be?”
Meanwhile HBO also announced premiere dates for the rest of its upcoming slate. The HBO Films comedy “Clear History” starring Larry David will premiere on Aug. 10 at 9 p.m. ET, “Boardwalk Empire” returns for its fourth season on Sept. 8 at 9 p.m. ET, and the new Stephen Merchant comedy series “Hello Ladies” premieres on Sept. 29 at 10 p.m. ET.
