The criticism has been over the alleged lightening of Gabby’s skin and also that the heavier Sidibe was only shown from the chest up, while other svelter cover girls Lauren Conrad, Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried were all show in three-quarters length shots.

But a rep for the Oscar-nominated actress tells Access Hollywood that Sidibe is “absolutely thrilled to be on the cover of ELLE magazine’s 25th anniversary issue.” Which isn’t exactly a response to the outcry, but OK.

]]>Nothing out of the ordinary was done. We have four separate covers this month and Gabby’s cover was not retouched any more or less than the others. We had 25 cover worthy subjects in our portfolio and we chose Gabby because of who she is.” “We shot this as a story of exuberant young women changing the world,” adds the magazine’s rep. “If you take a looks at the portfolio in its entirety, each of the women were shot in different ways and for different reason.” Do you think ELLE’s photo editors got a little carried away?
