Ellen Pompeo is getting deeper into bed with ABC now that she’s sold her first network series to the studio. The “Grey’s Anatomy” star has developed a female-led cop drama for the studio through her Calamity Jane production company, Deadline reports.
The show will follow a Keira Burke, a Boston-based cop that is gravely injured in the line of duty. Six years later she returns to the police force as a police psychologist to the same precinct she had previously left. Keira will have to navigate the politics of returning to the force and her new patients with a very different perspective on how to protect the law.
The series was written by Andy Stern, who will also serve as executive producer with Pompeo and Calamity Jane’s head of development Laura Holstein.
Calamity Jane also sold an adaption Rachel Carey’s 2013 novel “Debt” as an ABC Family series.
Though Pompeo is stepping up her responsibilities behind the camera, she will still be the main focus of the upcoming “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11.
“Grey’s” returns to ABC on Sept. 25 at 8 p.m ET/PT.
