With the 2014 Emmy Awards nominations due to be announced on July 10, Zap2it is making cases for the actors and shows that deserve some awards love, but would be surprising — and therefore very exciting — nominees.
RIP “Legit.” FX axed the critically acclaimed but barely viewed comedy in its second season, and that decision still hurts. The one thing that would make the pain slightly more bearable is some awards recognition for the fantastic series.
“Legit” is easy to overlook when compared to FX’s most recognized comedy, “Louie.” We’re expecting Louis C.K. to get an Emmy nomination for this past season, and for good reason. But “Legit” deserves love too. If we could pick just one member of “Legit’s” cast to get an Emmy nod, it would be Dan Bakkedahl.
In Season 1, DJ Qualls was the standout actor as wheelchair-bound Billy Nugent. In Season 2, Bakkedahl really stepped it up as Billy’s alcoholic older brother, Steve Nugent. His performance was more drama than comedy, which means he’s more than deserving of an Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy nomination.
“Legit” is a special little show, and one that we hope more people find as the years go on. But for now, it would be great to wish it a fond farewell with an Emmy nomination — even if it doesn’t get the (even more unlikely) win.
