In the four years that it’s been on the air, ABC’s “Modern Family” has been a critical and viewer darling, racking up awards left and right. For its first three seasons, at least one member of the esteemed cast took home some hardware at the Emmys. That streak, however, came to its end at the 2013 ceremony on Sunday (Sept. 22).
For the first time in the show’s history, the cast was shut out, with surprising upset wins in both Supporting Actor and Actress categories. “Nurse Jackie” actress Merritt Wever won out over both Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen (who’s taken the award the last two years, while “Veep” actor Tony Hale swept over Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ty Burrell and Ed O’Neill.
UPDATE: While individual acting achievements were snubbed this year, the show did take home Best Comedy, so the night wasn’t a total wash for one of America’s favorite extended families.
Are you surprised that the “Modern Family” cast went home empty-handed in the Actor categories, or was it time they shared the wealth?
