If you’ve ever caught yourself wondering what Walt and Jesse would look like popping and locking while watching “Breaking Bad,” then the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards were right up your alley.
For the first time ever, the nominees in the Outstanding Choreography category were challenged to all work together to create a special dance performance for the ceremony. In return, their category would be included during the big night, rather than the Creative Arts Emmys a week prior.
So what exactly did nominees Derek Hough (“DWTS”), Allison Holker (“DWTS”), Warren Carlyle (“Rogers & Hammerstein’s Carousel”), Mandy Jo Moore (“SYTYCD”), Napoleon and Tabitha Dumo (“SYTYCD”), Travis Wall (“SYTYCD”) and Sonya Tayeh (“SYTYCD”) come up with?
Well, it was a tribute to the Emmys and several of the shows nominated for Outstanding Series that opened on host Neil Patrick Harris singing “Luck, Be A Lady” before devolving into a series of homages to the series, including the aforementioned breakdancing “Breaking Bad” guys, a balletic Khaleesi from “Game of Thrones” and a bunch of bootleggers from “Boardwalk Empire” dancing to Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.” (Whoever overlooked the opportunity to alter the lyrics to “They’re up all night to get Nucky” ought to be kicking themselves.)
While it might have been even more enjoyable to see the actual choreography that earned the nominees their nod, the inclusion of the category on Emmy’s big night was long overdue and a true delight.
Check out the moment for yourself and let us know your thoughts on the montage.
