The winner in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category at the 66th annual Primetime Emmy Awards may ultimately come down to whether “Breaking Bad” sweeps the awards show for its final season. If it does, this category is Anna Gunn’s to lose, though the spread of actresses nominated could cause the award to be more of a toss up.
Since Gunn won the Emmy in 2013, so the TV Academy could decide to give the award to another deserving candidate. Lena Headey turned in a fantastic performance in “Game of Thrones” Season 4, so she is a strong contender. Similarly, Joanne Froggatt’s arc as Anna on “Downton Abbey” could make her more deserving the award than also nominated (and always great) Maggie Smith.
Christine Baranski could also get “The Good Wife” a well-earned win since the show was overlooked for Outstanding Drama Series. Then there’s Christina Hendricks of “Mad Men,” which is more of a long shot when stacked against the other Emmy contenders in the category. If anything, she could win in 2015 when “Mad Men” is nominated again for its final season.
