“Project Runway” isn’t the pop culture driving force it once was (though still quite enjoyable), and NBC is hoping to fill that void with its newest reality series, “Fashion Star.”
Hosted and executive produced by former model and current fashion mogul Elle Macpherson, who has her own successful lingerie line, the show features 14 designers competing to get their lines in stores like Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue. Coincidentally, buyers from the three stores, Caprice Willard (Macy’s), Terron E. Schaefer (Saks Fifth Avenue) and Nicole Christie (H&M), will serve as the show’s judges.
The contestants will be mentored by celebrity designers Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson and John Varvatos. In a new twist, the winning designs will be available to purchase online and in the three stores the morning after each episode.
So, wanna know who could become the country’s next big fashion star? Check out our gallery with bios of the 14 designers, then let us know (based on superficial assessment alone) who you’re rooting for when the show debuts with a super-sized episode on Tuesday, March 13 at 9:30 p.m. on NBC. It’ll move into its regular 10 p.m. time slot the following week.
