Last week, “Fringe” fans saw Peter (Joshua Jackson) and Olivia (Anna Torv) finally get together, for real. But are they star-crossed… or set up? Tonight’s Feb. 25 episode will take us back in time to their very first meeting, orchestrated by Walter (John Noble).
It turns out Peter and Olivia first encountered each other when they were children in Jacksonville. “We have known it for a long time, how and when we were going to reveal that was determined while we were writing the episode,” executive producer Jeff Pinkner reveals to TV Guide.
Pinkner and exec producer Joel Wyman assure us that Peter and Olivia’s love story is a priority for the show — but the road won’t be easy. Peter impregnated alternate-Olivia, and he doesn’t know it yet. He may stay in the dark for longer than we expect. “We’re thinking about maybe holding it off,” Wyman says.
“Perhaps until next season,” adds Pinkner.
They’ve got bigger things to deal with now. “There’s a good reason for it. We can’t tell you now, but we’re trying to
do something now that nobody’s ever done and we’re excited for our
season finale. It’s something we’re really excited about,” Pinkner says. “In the best story of star-crossed lovers, they don’t
get together in the first act. Our intention is to have a long shelf
life. The Peter-Olivia story will always be at the heart of it, but it
may not always be smooth sailing.”
