To say that Petyr Baelish’s feelings for Sansa Stark are complicated is a huge understatement. In the most recent episode of “Game of Thrones,” he said that he views her like the daughter he could have had before kissing her in a very unfatherly manner.
The root of Littlefinger’s (Aiden Gillen) feelings for Sansa (Sophie Turner) stem from his affection for her mother, Catelyn Stark, but their relationship has become more than just a second chance at Ned Stark’s wife for him. In a video released by HBO, author George R.R. Martin explains how Petyr views Sansa.
“Other times, she’s not Cat’s daughter; she’s like young Cat. She’s his teenage fantasies returned again,” he says. “Then his feelings to her are sexual and romantic, and those feelings overcome him at the moment when he sees Sansa in the snow.”
He also explains, “At other times, he detaches himself from that, and he’s less Petyr and more Littlefinger, and she’s just another piece in the game of thrones.”
“Game of Thrones” returns June 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
