“The Strain,” the new FX drama from Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse and Chuck Hogan, just found its John Hurt replacement for the character of Professor Abraham Setrakian. After the Oscar-winner’s role was recast, it was announced by FX that David Bradley will take the part.
Bradley became infamous this past year for his role as Walder Frey in “Game of Thrones.” He’s well known for another fantasy character as well: Argus Filch in “Harry Potter.” Up next, he’ll play William Harnell in “An Adventure in Space and Time,” a dramatic retelling of the creation of “Doctor Who” airing on Nov. 22. Coincidentally, Hurt will play the Dark Doctor in the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special, airing Nov. 23.
Professor Setrakian is described as a holocaust survivor who immigrated to the U.S. after World War II and now runs a pawn shop in Spanish Harlem. As a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism spreads, he may be the only one with answers — if anyone will listen.
Also starring in “The Strain” are Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin, Kevin Durand, Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Robert Maillet, Jack Kesy, Ben Hyland and Miguel Gomez. The series is aiming for a July 2014 premiere on FX.
