“F*** you to those people.”
Martin’s comment comes in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Tages Anzeiger, when asked about people who speculate that his age (65) and health might kill him before he finishes writing his “Song of Ice and Fire” books (on which the “Game of Thrones” TV series is based). “I find that question pretty offensive,” Martin says.
Why would some fans be worried that their beloved fantasy series might not finish before Martin’s death? In addition to the author’s notoriously slow writing process, some are likely making comparisons to another fantasy writer. Robert Jordan, the author of the “Wheel of Time” book series, died in 2007 at the age of 58. He had written 11 novels in the series over a 15-year period, but the final three books were only published after his death and were officially co-authored by Brandon Sanderson.
Apparently, Martin doesn’t worry that he and his books might share in this fate.
