Warning: Spoilers for “Game of Thrones'” Season 4 finale “The Children” are contained in this article.
Some new faces have come to the Wall. Stannis Baratheon brought his army and followers to Castle Black in response to the Night’s Watch’s call for allies, and there he will remain when Season 5 picks up.
For the actors who have spent the majority of their time on “Game of Thrones” at the Castle Black set, it was a little strange having Stephen Dillane (Stannis), Liam Cunningham (Davos) and Carice van Houten (Melisandre), among others, shoot on set. John Bradley tells Zap2it
that the Stannis scenes only took one day, and the fact that the Wall cast was meeting new actors helped feed into the fact that their characters were also meeting for the first time.
“You can use a lot of that experience of how you feel on the day because there are new characters coming into your domain, if you like; new characters coming to Castle Black,” the actor who plays Samwell Tarly shares. “There’s also new actors coming to the Castle Black set, and the actors themselves feel insecure and feel unfamiliar with the place. The other actors feel more familiar with the other actors. There’s a kind of clash. There’s a kind of anomaly.”
Bradley admits filming with the new cast was a bit strange for everyone involved. “All the actors on day felt that there was a kind of mismatch on there,” he says. “They felt that different people are coming into the world that shouldn’t really be here. It’s amazing how kind of parochial and how kind of protective you get about your own part of the world in ‘Game of Thrones.'”
Now that Mance Rayder and his Wildling army have been defeated, the big question is what comes next? There is still no Lord Commander to command the Night’s Watch, and it’s unclear what Stannis wants in return for his help. It could be that Jon Snow and Sam have unwittingly traded war in for politics.
“Game of Thrones” is renewed for Seasons 5 and 6.
