“GCB” has gotten Christians all riled up over its purported negative portrayal of people of the faith, and their complaints have not gone unnoticed by advertisers. TMZ reports that Kraft Philadelphia has decided to pull its advertising that airs during the show due to consumer complaints.
A rep for the show says, “Philadelphia has decided to pull its advertising from ‘GCB’ … We have received a few complaints from consumers and their opinions about our advertising are important to us. We have recently decided to redirect our advertising to other programs.”
New York City councilman Peter Vallone has also called for a boycott of the show, calling the title of the show an “outrageous attack on the Christian faith.”
However, “GCB” star Kristin Chenoweth is a celebrity who has always been very vocal about her Christian faith. She tells Zap2it that she wouldn’t be involved in “GCB” if it was making fun of, or portraying Christianity in an negative light. Chenoweth maintains there is a difference between “making fun of” and “having fun with.” She urges the critics of the show to do the Christian thing and not pass judgment on it without seeing it first, saying the show is “more about women and their relationships with each other than it is about religion.”
