That third “Ghostbusters” film might actually happen after all, but it’ll look a little different than many people have expected: “Freaks and Geeks” creator Paul Feig is in talks to direct and produce the film, which is being described as an all-female reboot with comedic actresses.
According to Variety, the script will be “written from scratch,” and will not be a continuation of the current series in any way (other than the whole ghostbusting thing).
Feig directed two of comedy’s biggest recent hits, “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat,” both which also featured female leads.
Apparently no formal negotiations have taken place, but Feig has “been in conversation” with Sony to direct, Variety reports.
After original “Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman dropped out of “Ghostbusters 3” in March following the death of original star Harold Ramis, the future of the project has been in flux.
