Ginger White is the latest chapter of Herman Cain‘s tumultuous presidential campaign. The Georgia woman claims to have had an extramarital affair with Cain and recently cited her phone bill, that had 61 calls to Cain’s private cell phone, as proof.
Now Ginger has appeared on “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” on MSNBC and in the course of the interview, she apologizes to Cain’s wife and children.
“I am not a cold-hearted person. I am a mother of two kids. And of
course my heart bleeds for this woman because I am a woman and being in a
situation like this can not be fun,” says White.
am deeply, deeply sorry if I have caused any hurt to her and to his
kids, to his family. That was not my intention. I never wanted to hurt
anyone and I’m deeply sorry. I am very sorry,” she finishes.
When asked what she thinks Cain will do, she says that she will respect whatever the decision is and that her coming forward with this alleged affair was not politically motivated.
“He has never appeared to be a quitter. He’s a person who pretty much, as I said, goes after whatever he wants. Whatever decision is made, I will respect that decision,” says White. “As I have said many times before, this has never been political. This has been a very, very difficult situation for me, for my family, his family. It’s been very tough. Whatever decision the Cain family makes is their decision and I will respect that decision.”
O’Donnell then discusses how local media had received information about the affair and was going to go public with it, so White chose to get out ahead of the story.
“It was a tough decision. Many sleepless nights, many sleepless nights. Many tears dropped. I had to sit my kids down. I have a daughter that’s 20, my son is 18. You can’t imagine how tough that conversation was, to share something so personal, so private and also inappropriate,” says White. “When I’m trying to teach my kids to do the right thing and here I’m having to sit down and look at them and say, ‘You know what, mommy really screwed up and I hope you can forgive me.”
“I talked with my family and they are very supportive. It’s been very tough on everyone involved. This was not, again, something I wanted to come out with and I have not received a dime for any of this. I just wouldn’t do that,” she continues.
White maintains the affair started in the late 1990s in Louisville, KY and continued for 13 years. She also made the distinction that “it wasn’t a love affair, it was a sexual affair.” Cain says he was merely helping White financially and that these were more false allegations levied against him.
