More than five million viewers tuned in to see the next generation of the Matthews family in the premiere of Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World,” the sequel to the coming of age 1990s sitcom “Boy Meets World.”
“GMW” garnered 5.2 total viewers in its debut outing on June 27, ranking the No. 1 launch of 2014 in the kids 2-11, kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14 demographics. It’s also the most-downloaded Disney Channel series preview on iTunes, and is on track to become the most-viewed series ever on the network’s WATCH Disney Channel app.
The night also saw the debut of Disney Channel’s newest original movie, “Zapped,” starring Zendaya. The Friday night film drew 5.7 million total viewers for its premiere showing, making it 2014’s No. 1 cable TV telecast in those same demographics.
