The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced Wednesday (Feb. 9) that Bravo exec and “Watch What Happens: Live’s” Andy Cohen will be hosting this year’s GLAAD Media Awards ceremony on April 10 in New York City.
This year the organization honors out pop singer and proud dad of two Ricky Martin with the Vito Russo Award. The organization’s president, Jarrett Barrios, calls his 2010 coming out “a game changer for many gay and transgender Latino children.”
“Through his music, videos and interviews,” Barrios says. “Ricky has sent an important message that our community wants the same things all people do: an equal chance to raise our families and take care of our loved ones.”
Also Broadway star and recurring “Glee” actress, Kristin Chenoweth, will receive the Vanguard Award for being an outspoken critic against anti-gay sentiments in the media.
“It sends an important message of equality,” says Barrios. “It is a privilege to honor such a talented and conscientious advocate for fairness towards the LGBT community.”
