Seeing Mr. Schue’s (Matthew Morrison) rival Bryan Ryan back isn’t as easy as writing him another power ballad sing-off though.
“It’s such a tricky thing [because] that’s not the network that ‘How I Met Your Mother’ is on,” Harris tells E!. “I have bosses that make me sign contracts to keep me at one place for a long period of time, and understandably so. I love the gig, love doing it. They’re [the ‘Glee’ guys] super fun, and they didn’t shoot me at the end of the first episode, so if I’m ever able to come back I’d love to.”
Co-creator Ryan Murphy is all gung-ho to have him back as well: “I think we’ve just begun to see the tip of the villainry for Brian Ryan.”
We’re kind of hoping that the two of them are just being a little cagey. Hey, we can dream, can’t we?
Besides, Murphy let slip some intriguing news Monday (Aug. 2) at the TCA press tour, which we think could bode well for a Bryan Ryan return.
“Jessalyn [Gilsig]’s character [Terri] is coming back,” he says. “She does not want to be divorced and she’s decided in the middle 10 [episodes] to seek vengeance by going after someone that would make Will incredibly jealous.”
Now, wouldn’t Will’s former high school rival be the perfect person to poke the green-eyed monster? We can’t think of that many other age-appropriate rivals on the show with Coach Tanaka out. Okay, maybe Cheyenne Jackson would makes sense since he’ll be guest starring as the new coach for Vocal Adrenaline. That would make sense, and we’d be fine with it, as long as Bryan Ryan could come back in some form!
We’re willing to wait though since Harris is a wee bit busy. Not only is he suiting up to be Barney Stinson for “HIMYM” again, but he’s also directing “Rent” at the Hollywood Bowl, opening Friday, Aug. 6.
What do you think about a Bryan Ryan return? How about Terri’s new love interest?
