New “Glee” cast member Chord Overstreet is easing the public into the significant Season 2 adjustment of a new recurring McKinley student, starting with a stroll down the Teen Choice Awards red carpet.
We already know that Overstreet will play Sam, a football teammate of Finn’s (Cory Monteith) who goes from protege to rival quickly after his introduction in the season premiere. And now it looks like he’ll offer up some competition in glee as well. The 21-year-old musician admits that he will be joining New Directions on the series, where he fully intends to show off his pipes.
What’s still not clear is if there’s a grander plan for Sam beyond annoying Finn and stealing screen time from the unsung members of ND. (No love for Mike Chang and Matt Rutherford?) There is, of course, always speculation. And many a fan wonder if Sam will end up playing the promised love interest for Kurt (Chris Colfer).
“I honestly have no clue what my place in the show is, because we take it one episode at a time,” says Chord, shrugging off rumors of his character’s possible pairing. “I’m only up to episode two.”
