Can we expect a shirtless Chord Overstreet when New Directions heads East across the pond?
The cast of “Glee” is taking an update of their successful live tour from the past summer to play exclusive European engagements in London, Dublin and Manchester in June and July, FOX announced Friday (Nov. 19).
“We had such a great time putting together last year’s shows and the response from the fans was incredible,” says creator Ryan Murphy. “People around the world want to see our cast live and in person, so this European tour is our way of thanking them for the unbelievable way they’ve embraced our little show. And for everyone in America who has asked if we’ll be back to a city near them this summer, stay tuned. We’ll have some exciting news very soon.”
Amber Riley, who plays Mercedes, says, “I loved performing for the fans in Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix and New York last year and didn’t think there was any way to top that experience, but performing in the great arenas of London, Manchester and Dublin? How cool is that? We cannot wait.”
“We had so much fun on tour last year that we were all itching to do it again,” adds Cory Monteith, who plays Finn. “The fact that we’re going to Europe to perform for thousands of people is mind blowing. This show has been quite a ride.”
So what can fans expect?
The show’s anthem “Don’t Stop Believin”” of course, but also a mix of songs from Season 1 and 2, including “Empire State of Mind” from the second season premiere, “My Life Would Suck Without You,” “It’s My Life” and Britney Spears’ “Toxic.”
Oh, and fans of Season 2 recurring stars Chord Overstreet (Sam) and Darren Criss (Blaine) don’t need to fret. Both newcomers will join the tour, which means we expect Criss’ cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” to get stage time. And for Overstreet perhaps “Billionaire” would work well, but the big question is: Will he have his shirt on or off?
In addition to the cast mentioned above, Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Mark Salling, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris and Harry Shum, Jr. will be performing. In the previous North American tour, cast members Matthew Morrison and Jane Lynch appeared in pre-taped segments, interacting with the cast on stage.
You know, if they do well and the timing is right, maybe they can come back to play for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s reception. They’ve performed at the White House after all. Just sayin’.
