It’s safe to say that Darren Criss‘ debut on “Glee” went well. There are reports that he’s set to become a regular in the cast, and the song he performed in Tuesday’s episode is set to have a huge debut on the music charts as well.
According to Billboard, his version of Katy Perry‘s “Teenage Dream” set a single-day sales record for a “Glee” song on iTunes, logging 55,000 downloads in its first day. The song is forecast to sell between 150,000 and 175,000 copies by the end of the week.
If “Teenage Dream” reaches the upper end of those projections, it could become one of the highest-charting “Glee” singles ever. The current first-week record for the show’s cast is held by the cast’s version of “Don’t Stop Believin'” from the pilot; it debuted with 177,000 copies sold.
“Don’t Stop Believin'” is also the only “Glee” song to crack the top 10 in the Billboard Hot 100. Criss’ version of “Teenage Dream” has a chance to become the second.
