Taylor Swift won a Grammy on Sunday before the 55th annual Grammy Awards even started… that’s just how things are going for her these days. She and the Civil Wars won Best Song Written for a Visual Media, for “Safe and Sound” from “The Hunger Games” soundtrack.
Swift, who wore a cream and silver Jay Mendel gown and tied her hair up in braids, was having a great day. She and Ed Sheeran, who is opening up for her Red tour next month, were hanging out backstage when they had a visitor.
“Everybody was kind of milling around and Ed popped into my dressing room to say hi, and we get a knock on the door and it was like ‘Oh, Elton John wants to come say hi,'” Swift told Ryan Seacrest on the carpet. “I was like ‘Tell Sir Elton John he can come in and say hi!’ It was just a really fun afternoon. That’s the thing about the Grammys. You never know who you’re gonna run into.”
Swift had already set up backstage because she’s the first to perform tonight. “I just really hope that it’s decent and good and like I hope that I don’t nerve out and freak out,” she says. “Just think good thoughts for me, I really need them. But I’m stoked. I mean, opening up the Grammys is something I … never thought I’d get to do.”
Seacrest encouraged Swift to put her hands in E!’s ever-awkward mani-cam — but Swift was a little shy about it, because she’d done her own nails with a quick swipe of silver sparkle. “That happened 15 minutes ago,” she said, embarrassed.
