Now before you start grabbing your pitchforks and flaming torches and beating down my proverbial door in the comments section, let me explain. I wasn’t okay with “Crane” or whatever their shipping name is until Thursday (Dec. 5) night’s all-new episode, “Man on the Moon.” It seemed weird, and awkward, and pathetic, and not right at all before that. But after their little happy dance over their successful, groundbreaking surgery, and Cristina and Meredith’s fight over Shane’s attitude, Crane grew on me.
Since it seems like “Grey’s Anatomy” is going to keep Cristina and Meredith apart for Oh’s final season (still not okay with that decision), Cristina needs someone in her corner, and Shane is that person. He’s pushing her to be the best surgeon she can be, and in turn, he’s learning from her how to be the best surgeon he can be. Sure, he might be a little more aggressive now, but that led him to help make medical history. Sorry if he hurt your feelings Mere, but he’s saving lives. That’s what the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial are trying to do.
Plus, we’ve only ever seen male attendings hooking up with female interns. It’s kind of nice to see the gender roles reversed for once.
And Shane really is like a mini-Cristina. They work together, both professionally and personally. Sure, their relationship isn’t going to be epic or romantic, but it works … for now. It’s drama-free, which is what they both need … for now. So I’m okay with Crane … for now.
Until, that is, Cristina and Meredith make up and things go back to normal. Get on that, Shonda Rhimes.
“Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
