Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are getting a divorce.
The couple announced their decision on Tuesday (March 25), on Paltrow’s website GOOP in a post titled “Conscious Uncoupling.” The post caused the site to crash shortly after it went live.
“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,” Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Martin write. “We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.”
However, their split is an amicable one. Paltrow and Martin go on to describe the phenomenon called “Conscious Uncoupling” by Dr. Habib Sadeghi and Dr. Sherry Sami, explaining that their divorce is actually a good thing.
“Naturally, divorce is much easier if both parties choose to have a conscious uncoupling,” Paltrow and Martin write. “However, your experience and personal growth isn’t conditional on whether or not your spouse chooses to participate. You can still receive the lessons he or she has to give you, resist being baited into dramatic arguments, and stand firm in your internal, spiritual support system.
Paltrow and Martin have married in December 2003 and have two children together: Apple, 9, and Moses, 7. Martin has also just been selected to be a mentor on Season 6 of “The Voice.”
