Zoe began the season finale with a whole lot of romantic options… and by the time the episode ended, it seemed she still hadn’t quite made up her mind. A rendezvous with her ex Wade proved to be the bad idea we all knew it was but were hoping it wouldn’t be, particularly when their morning together was interrupted by George walking in to declare, well … something.
George was pretty conflicted about his feelings for Zoe; over the course of the episode he went from wanting to be with her, to encouraging her to get back together with Wade, to drinking all Zoe-related issues away at the Rammer Jammer, to… singing the blues. (On any other show, this might have been a cheesy turn, but since Scott Porter’s actually got some impressive pipes, it was downright awesome.)
Meanwhile, some unexpected bonding between Wade and Lemon (thanks to a road trip to retrieve Gloriana … yes, the country band) only served to convince Wade that Zoe is the girl for him. He’s got renewed confidence in himself — he’s not the ne’er-do-well he once was, and he can be good for her — but Zoe doesn’t necessarily share his optimism about their relationship.
Zoe is headed to New York for a wedding, and for a much-needed break from her Bluebell drama, but there’s also a summer opportunity at her old hospital there that could take her out of Bluebell for a few months. Her relationship with Wade is on hold for the summer, though they agree to revisit the possibility in the fall, and she’s still in denial about George’s feelings for her.
Just when it looks like she might be spending her NYC summer alone, though, Jonah Breeland pops up — as he tends to do — to escort Zoe to her friend’s wedding.
