Fridays remain a big night for law and order, as the first official one of the new TV season (Sept. 27) reaffirms — but young chefs are being added to the night’s viewing recipe.
8 p.m. ET/PT:
“Undercover Boss” (Season 5 premiere, CBS): The reality show that sends bosses incognito among their employees starts fresh with Randy Dewitt, the co-founder and CEO of the Twin Peaks sports-bar-and-grill chain. He never could pass for one of the Daisy Mae-attired waitresses, so it’s an automatic relief that he merely poses as a customer … but the type he wouldn’t want his workers to have to deal with.
“Masterchef Junior” (Series premiere, FOX): A kinder, gentler Gordon Ramsay? If that’s possible, it’ll happen in this kids’ version of his popular cooking contest, with all the entrants between the ages of 8 and 13. Bear in mind Ramsay also has their parents to deal with, so it’s a pretty good bet he’ll stay on whatever the definition of “best behavior” is in his universe.
“Perfect Score” (Season 1 finale, The CW): Enjoyably spirited host Arielle Kebbel (“The Vampire Diaries”) gets one more new round of pitting friends against each other as they try to pick their ideal match, with the winner getting not only a date, but possibly $50,000 … and hopefully keeping the friendship from going off the rails afterward. (An encore episode follows.)
9 p.m. ET/PT:
“Hawaii Five-0” (Season 4 premiere, CBS): Fresh from his run on last season’s “Golden Boy,” Chi McBride is back on CBS as a cop … one who also was featured in this show’s original incarnation. The character gets involved in the search for the kidnapped Catherine (Michelle Borth), as does McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin), who’s on the run after breaking out of prison with archenemy Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos). Henry Ian Cusick also guests, in a reunion with his former “Lost” co-star Daniel Dae Kim.
10 p.m. ET/PT:
“Blue Bloods” (Season 4 premiere, CBS): It’s Reagan vs. Reagan — something rather familiar to fans of this drama — as prosecutor Erin (Bridget Moynahan) is forced, by a lack of evidence, to drop charges against a suspect in a robbery that resulted in a policewoman’s death. Naturally, her police-commissioner father Frank (Tom Selleck) and — even more vocally — her detective brother Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) are unhappy about that turn of events. The episode also introduces Vanessa Ray as Officer Jamie Reagan’s (Will Estes) new partner.
