BBC Four is taking its own stab at telling the life story of Elizabeth Taylor. Instead of “Liz & Dick,” this 90-minute standalone film will be called “Burton & Taylor” and will be directed by Richard Laxton.
Deadline reports that Helena Bonham Carter will take the role of Taylor while Dominic West will play her longtime love Richard Burton. The flick will follow their “ill-fated appearance in a 1983 revival of the Noel Coward play, ‘Private Lives,’ which ran for 63 performances on Broadway.”
This announcement comes only a few months after Lifetime debuted its own Taylor biopic, “Liz & Dick.” That project, released on Nov. 25, 2012, cast Lindsay Lohan and Grant Bowler as its title characters, and was met with generally negative reviews. It’s clear that BBC is going a different route with its flick, and the casting of Carter is very intriguing. Do you think she’s a good fit for the part?
