Zap2it: How do you describe Maj. Sergio Balleseros?
Mark Ghanime: He is a bit of a badass with a big heart. He is the fallen hero. He is the one who has been misguided and came up on the wrong side of the tracks. He takes whatever he needs to move forward. He is not your classic villain in any sense. I know he has been shocking the fandom world of our show with his antics.
Zap2it: When did you know you wanted to be an actor?
Mark Ghanime: It was a bit of a weird circumstance — for a Juliette Lewis TV movie (“Chasing Freedom”). I got on the set. They brought me on because they wanted anybody in Calgary with any Arabic descent, and they put this big, crazy beard on me and a headdress, and I was blown away. And I thought it was fabulous. The set looked like a bombed-out city, and I started asking questions. One woman had a small part on the show, and she had the time to talk to me, and she told me to go to study at an actors studio.
Zap2it: What were you doing then?
Mark Ghanime: I was in real estate development with my father and working with the Royal Bank of Canada, doing mortgages. This was something I did not really predict.
Zap2it: What role would you love to play?
Mark Ghanime: I am playing it right now with Balleseros. The Web series I was doing, that character is building a darker side. I want to switch over to the dramatic comedy lead guy.
