When Season 2 of “House of Lies” came to a close, the one person who looked like he was on top of the world was Clyde (Ben Schwartz). He finally stuck it to his boss, Marty Kaan (Don Cheadle), and was going to a new company to be a star.
That’s not exactly what happened, though. Season 3 arrives Sunday (Jan. 12), and Clyde isn’t doing so well. “I think where I start in Season 3 is I think I’m in a place of power because I’m at this new job,” Schwartz tells Zap2it, “but in essence I’m being pushed down to nothing and being destroyed and it’s a terrible place.”
Clyde is haunted by the pod he destroyed after realizing it’s the one thing he desperately needs. “He figured out his life without those guys is pretty crappy and miserable,” Schwartz says. With them gone, things take a sad turn for the character. “You’re going to find out a lot of this season is a lot of me trying to get somebody to care about me and include me in this business because I get s*** on like crazy, right off the bat,” Schwartz explains. “Things get super dark, the darkest I’ve done.”
Things are going to get so dark that viewers will be shown the true nature of Clyde, underneath his slick exterior. “I think honestly, if you want to get deep and weird, and I’m sorry for getting nerdy, he finds out what he’s like by himself. You find out he’s a sad guy,” Schwartz says.
Whether there is redemption for him with Kaan and his former pod members remains to be seen, but for now it looks like Clyde is in for a little bit of misery. “House of Lies” airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.
