That is the most likely explanation for an incident that occurred between two of the most powerful politicians in the United States on Friday (Dec. 28). With negotiations between Republicans and Democrats rushing quickly to the edge of financial disaster, Speaker of the House John Boehner told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to go f— himself.
Yes, you read that right. Things were really tense in Washington last week.
The interaction occurred when Boehner (a Republican representative from Ohio) passed Reid (a Democratic senator from Nevada) in the White House lobby. According to Politico.com, Boehner pointed a finger at Reid and said, “Go f— yourself.” A startled Reid reportedly replied, “What are you talking about?” Boehner then repeated his curse and continued on his way.
It’s believed that this brief descent into middle-school antics was provoked by Reid’s earlier comments that Boehner was a “dictator” in the House who cared more about keeping power than making a deal.
Whatever the case, this is most likely a momentary lapse in what is a privately amicable relationship between the two politicians. Despite their political differences, the two men have been known to work together well behind the scenes in the past. A little bit of foul language probably won’t change that.
